180grader started out as a liberal online newspaper with user-generated content. It was founded in 2007 by the liberal politician Ole Birk Olesen (formerly journalist at Berlingske Tidende) and Thomas Breitenbach Jensen (editor at liberator.dk), together with Jimmi Meilstrup and Kresten Buch (both co-owners of bold.dk). In late 2009, the founder of Saxo Bank, Lars Seier Christensen joined 180grader.
